Learn More About the The Western Canada Professional Hockey Scouts Foundation
The Western Canada Professional Hockey Scouts Foundation was born out of a collective desire to honour and recognize the contributions of senior NHL scouts from Western Canada, particularly those who worked in the league from the early 1960s through the late 1980s. These scouts, whose friendships, efforts and dedication to the sport left a lasting impact on the hockey community, were seen as deserving of acknowledgment by their peers and the broader hockey fraternity.
To pay tribute to these individuals, the foundation created a Wall of Honour as a permanent display commemorating their contributions to the game. The search for a suitable venue led to the selection of the Viking Rentals Centre (formerly Okotoks Centennial Arena), located just 38 km south of downtown Calgary and home to the junior Oilers. The Town of Okotoks graciously agreed to partner with our foundation, offering a prime location to host the Wall of Honour’s permanent video display.
With the Wall of Honour as its cornerstone, our foundation’s mission expanded. We established a mandate to provide support and financial assistance to individuals, charities and communities connected to the game of hockey. Whether aiding those in need, supporting community initiatives, or preserving the legacy of hockey scouts, we will work tirelessly to make a meaningful impact on the hockey world.
Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, we have successfully established the foundation's base, launched our website and begun our outreach efforts. The WCPHSF stands as the first Canadian organization dedicated to recognizing and honouring scouts in any sport, marking a significant milestone in the history of hockey and sports scouting.
